      Dr. Maya Angelou was an American poet and civil rights activist. She received over fifty honorary degrees, a nomination for the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, three Grammy Awards for her spoken word albums, the National Medal of Arts in 2000, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011.
