      American essayist, lecturer, and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson who led the Transcendentalist movement of the mid-XIXth century and was seen as a champion of individualism. He wrote his ideas first as lectures, then revised for publication. He published dozens of essays and delivered more than 1,500 public lectures across the United States.
